The Evils of Meninism
by Kait
First, there were ‘anti-SJWs.’ Then there were ‘MRAs.’ Now, they’ve decided to change their name, creating yet again another group meant solely to both degrade and harass feminists. Meninism.
The thing about meninism is that it isn’t a group that was created out of necessity, meaning marginalized men didn’t create the group in order to combat certain areas of problem that feminism wasn’t addressing, no, men created this group, along with the idea of eglatarianism (I’ve found that most people that call themselves this just do it because they can’t ‘align’ themselves with the views of feminism, and also are just wicked assholes) and ‘humanism’ (this is where my eyes are rolling into my head), just because. The funny thing is, a majority of people that are parts of these movements are people that have privilege, and therefore instead of using that privilege to speak out and defend/protect those that don’t benefit from the social system, they use it to be dicks.
I’m just going to put it out there; feminists truly are better meninists than meninists. Feminism isn’t just a ‘club’ for women to bitch about guys, as is a large misconception, feminism also focuses on the harm that the patriarchy does to men. This includes things as simple as the way society looks at men showing any emotion. “Guys don’t cry, man up...etc.” Chances are, a man has heard a statement like this at least once in their/his life. This is hurtful because it perpetuates the idea that men are supposed to be emotionless, and indicates, a lot of the time, that any show of emotion other than ‘manly’ and ‘I want to build a deck’ falls under the category of being ‘girly’ and therefore ‘wimpy.’ This can and does contribute to mental issues and self esteem issues that are found in boys and men, along with even being a factor in domestic abuse.
But I’m not trying to sell you on feminism. I think we’re all at a point in our lives where we get it. We don’t need to beat the dead horse. But, I do think it should be addressed that the meninist thing...well it isn’t helping guys whatsoever. What about men of color, or transmen, or men who have been raped and sexually and physically and verbally abused? What about nonbinary people that tend to lean towards masculinity? What about bisexual and pansexual and asexual men that are shunned from both the straight and queer communities? Where are all the meninists in those areas? Why aren’t they fighting for and protecting those men, men and people that actually need a community to come together to combat their problems? I’ll tell you where, spending $25 on an ugly t shirt that says ‘#menisist’ instead of donating that money to a shelter or donating to transmen that need funds for their transition and binding and clothing and etc.
In short, meninism is a joke, is actually harmful to men in areas of society that need attention, and I probably would fight someone if I ever met them actually wearing one of those ugly ass shirts.
