TURPID.
Stemming from Turpe, Turpis from Latin for “disgraceful, dirty, morally unclean, filthy, sexually and characteristically revolting,” etc, etc. All terms also used to describe the subculture of Punk and other related groups. But here at TURPID, we know the truth and try to help others from their underground movement ALL OVER THE WORLD by producing this shitty, but much loved zine. Covering just about everything from feminism, sexism, protests, DIY, news and events in the world and history and the opinions and views of punks about them, political views, beliefs, drugs and booze(for or against, we show both sides), abuse, social issues, sex, sexuality, equality(and the lack of), different countries’ scenes, fashion, activism, tips and helpful advice for those having to live with homelessness and in poverty like where to sleep to be safe and places to get food or heat and etc, art, and other aspects and topics about our life styles.
We interviews with people from different walks of life and scenes in countries about everything and more listed above, and bands who are either unknown, struggling, or we just plain like and feature them in the “Good Shit To Listen To” section, spreading the word to those who might just be looking for that particular sound. At TURPID, we do our best to bring these issues and perspectives and beliefs to light for those in the community and help make aware these issues in a world where the media is so corrupt just like the governments running it. One of our greatest beliefs here at TURPID is that art and speech should be free, and so we hold ourselves very closely to this belief and make TURPID free for all, especially since it helps those who wouldn’t be able to afford it anyway. Though we do take donations, we give all the money that is donated per monthly and the editors take turns on choosing a charity of their choice to donate it to(ex; For my turn next month, I’m donating it to a clinic for those fighting addiction, then the month after that, X will be giving it to whatever charity they want). Not one cent is kept, even for supplies, and when we don’t get donations, we take it out of pocket so no matter what, we can help someone out. The fact that the editors have no motivation to get paid but contribute anyway really shows some of the best in humanity out there. And we appreciate them to no comprehendable end for that. We at TURPID would like to thank you the reader and the contributors to the zine as you are what keeps this piece of shit operation going.
Thanks, and cheers.
